My Research Philosophy
“I am passionate about the science, engineering and development of new materials for existing and emerging technologies in biomass utilization. It is immensely satisfying to address what I believe to be some of the world’s most growing issues in the future which pertain to meeting global manufacturing and energy demands in a sustainable and green manner. The idea of creatively combining the utilization of NMR and research on renewable material conversion from the feedstock to application is particularly exciting and in my opinion provides an advantage with respect to other groups working on similar problems.”
Personal Interview at Wiley Analytical Science Magazine
In April 2024, a $3.6 million, interdisciplinary center to develop nature-inspired alternatives to plastics for widespread application launched at the US-based Washington University in St Louis. Headed up by Professors Marcus Foston and Fuzhong Zhang from the McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington, ‘SMARC’ – Synthetic Biology Manufacturing of Advanced Materials Research Center – brings together experts in synthetic biology, machine learning, polymer science, material mechanics, and computational material simulation. Together, this interdisciplinary team intends to develop new, high-performance, sustainably sourced, and biodegradable plastics that will be adopted by industry.
